APPLE TREE YARD: Louise Doughty
APPLE TREE YARD
by Louise Doughty
There is a seediness to Apple Tree Yard that belies its gripping and dramatic storyline. The slippery slope of scientist Yvonne Carmichael’s decline begins with wordless sex in a broom closet, and ends with a murder charge in one of the best courtroom dramas I’ve read in years. The story develops in all sorts of unexpected ways: there is tenderness, horror, faithlessness and outright shock. This is a cracker of a read.
