THE STOLEN BICYCLE: Wu Ming-Yi
THE STOLEN BICYCLE
by Wu Ming-Yi
This book took me by surprise. Yes, it is a story about a lost bicycle; but it is also about a missing father, being a collector, butterflies in the wilds of Taiwan and elephants in Myanmar during WWII. This novel of intertwined stories is beautiful and gives a kaleidoscopic vision of Taiwan. No matter what direction Ming-Yi takes you, or how heartbreaking the narrative is, it's also a very calming read. At the end of each day I looked forward to my train ride home, so that I could sink back into this wonderful book.
