JUST KIDS: Patti Smith
JUST KIDS
by Patti Smith
I rarely read music biographies but this book just blew me away. The backbone of Smith’s story is her unbreakable bond with her sometime lover and life-long friend Robert Mapplethorpe. She writes with an economy of words and incredible tenderness whilst evoking vividly and without pretension what it was like to be young and an artist in the New York of the late 60s and early 70s. A singularly beautiful memoir about youth, love and art and the most inspiring book I have read in a very long time.
