Sarah Perry is an author to watch out for. Each of her novels has been seductive an enthralling in a unique way; and the brilliant Melmoth is her best yet. Melmoth was on several of our staff's 'Best of 2018' lists, one of those rare books that we all agreed on. Set mostly in Prague, it's wonderfully atmospheric and, with a plot that circles tantalisingly around a mysterious unknown, it's compulsively readable. But it also serves up some satisfying complex characters and toothsome ideas, making it one of our top recommendations.
