THE SENTENCE: Louise Erdrich
THE SENTENCE
by Louise Erdrich
Even if this book wasn't by one of my favourite authors, the blurb still would have hooked me at 'an ex-con bookseller is haunted by the ghost her most annoying former customer'. Tough, witty and dry, Tookie is an Ojibwe woman, an excellent bookseller and a brilliant narrator who guides us through this story of hauntings, marriage, politics and covid with humour and (under the sarcasm) a real sweetness. Read this if you like ghost stories or are curious about what it's like to work at a bookshop during a pandemic.
