THE MIGHTY RED: Louise Erdrich
THE MIGHTY RED
by Louise Erdrich
Like the mighty Red River that gives the book its name, this story contains strong narrative currents, twists and whorls of intrigue. Why does Kismet, a smart, ex-goth, daughter of a sugar beet hauler, accept a marriage proposal from Gary, a football jock next in line to the sugar beet farm? What exactly happened during that fretful winter? Why are there no birds left on the Geists’ farm? Erdrich reveals these plot points with finesse, taking us to North Dakota in the 2000s and on an ecological knife-edge. A great book for book clubs.
