THE LEBS: Michael Mohammed Ahmad
THE LEBS
by Michael Mohammed Ahmad
The blurb says that this book is ‘confronting, heartbreaking and illuminating’. It is all those things. But the way I want to describe it is funny. Really funny. And that is so refreshing. Set in Bankstown, Sydney, it touches on ‘serious’ issues that strike at the heart of national debate – like the role of Islam in Australia, racism and the education system. But it also did something Australian fiction doesn’t do that often – it made me laugh. A lot!
