This is a powerhouse of a novel; it is a fantastic evocation of Tudor life under Henry VIII. Anyone who loves historical novels will love this book. Mantel wonderfully brings the Tudor period to life, painting a vivid picture of the political machinations and court intrigues of the time, as seen through the eyes of Thomas Cromwell. Here is a more more sympathetic portrayal of Cromwell than has traditionally been painted. Mantel's research and skill is obvious and from this she has spun one of the great historical fiction novels.
