FRANKENSTEIN: Mary Shelley

FRANKENSTEIN

by Mary Shelley

I think it’s my all-time favourite novel. There’s something about the 19th-century English, the way it illustrates the dark world the characters inhabit. It’s a Gothic classic, argued by many to be the first work of science-fiction, probing the boundaries of scientific discovery. It asks: can our technology rule us? In 2019 this question is so relevant. Perhaps 19-year-old genius Mary Shelley saw 200 years ahead when she wrote this masterpiece.
