I was a big fan of Robbie Arnott’s debut Flames and his second novel, The Rain Heron, does not disappoint. What I love about the writing is how uniquely imaginative it is. This is literary fiction with a fast, engaging pace. Touching on the sci-fi, dystopian and horror genres, it follows three different characters in a country devastated by a military coup and the Rain Heron, a creature of mythical proportions. Beautifully written, it cements Arnott as one of the best writers in the country right now.​
