FRIENDS & DARK SHAPES

by Kavita Bedford

What makes a city? In this impressive debut novel, it is the people who make the city of Sydney feel alive and vibrant, capturing a sense of the now with freshness. The narrator, on the cusp of 30, is dealing with the death of her father. Her sense of self is tied to the memories of the landscape she inhabits, and it is in her movement through the city that we uncover what it means to live, to love and to grieve. I was heartened by this book and look forward to seeing what the talented author does next!
